BUFF GIRL
The Buffalo Girl Mural is a collaboration between the Intro to Gender Studies class (GNDR 3301) students and the WTAMU Art Program Mural Squad. We created the mural as a mix of the 1814 painting Grande Odalisque by the French artist Ingres and a feminist poster by the activist group the Guerilla Girls. We encouraged public responses throughout the campus, as we set up comment boxes with a picture of the mural and asked the question, “What does it mean to be a woman at WT?” We received numerous comments and a selection has been added to the mural by the WTAMU Mural Squad in the form of graffiti. The Gender Studies students also created a social media campaign for the “Buff Girl," including a Facebook page, Twitter, Snapchat, and Yik Yak accounts. The Facebook page is "WTAMU Buffgirl" and the Twitter account is "@Buffgirl8."
