My name is Mary Monte. I am a Senior Psychology major. I am in love with traveling, and hope to be able to travel one day while writing. But for now, my studies emphasize on forensic psychology and the path of the child criminal into adulthood. I took Gender Studies because after telling my advisor about my father being transgender, she recommended it to me. This ended up being one of my favorite classes and hope to take more in the future. I definitely recommend this class to my friends and peers. I have learned so much more than I thought I would.

My name is Mackenzie McLain and I am a senior at WT. I graduate December 17, 2016 - FINALLY! I'm a General Studies major (after about 3 major changes) and have thoroughly enjoyed the freedom General Studies has given me in taking classes that I am just generally and naturally interested in taking. I wanted to take this Gender Studies class so I could learn more about how other people view gender, sex, race, and the wide variety of other topics we have discussed in this class. I knew that not everyone in the world, much less on the WT campus, shares the same beliefs - regarding any and everything - and I wanted to be able to have a deeper understanding of others' viewpoints, opinions, and beliefs.

My name is DJ Ezell and I graduate in December 2016. I chose to take the Gender Studies class because I wanted to learn the different aspects of gender and to apply what I've learned in my everyday life. I think that the class has taught us about cultural diversity as well about gender diversity and I would recommend the class to everyone.

My name is Patrick Diepen. I am a junior level History major with hope of one day working in a museum. I originally took Gender studies to expand the perspectives from which I can write. Over time the class became more about learning about gender fluidity and identifying with issues that I will never have to face. This class is one of my favorite due to the intense discussion and a welcoming atmosphere. This is a class that everyone should take at some point.

My name is Victoria "Tori" Cook. I am about to be a senior in psychology with a neuroscience emphasis, and enjoy every minute of it. Gender Studies is a particularly interesting field for me because I am very involved with the LGBTQ community and interested in the history of how gender and identities have evolved throughout the years. This class is one that should be taken by anyone who gets the chance; it is very eye-opening and can make those who are not aware more knowledgeable about the subject of gender.

My name is Cody Glenn and I am a senior Psychology major and Philosophy minor. I am a Navy veteran and I love martial arts and traveling. My goal is to go to graduate school at the University of London and get my graduate degree in cognitive architecture. Ive been married to my wife for three wonderful years and have enjoyed my time here at W.T. I took gender studies because I wanted to increase my knowledge of "gender" to improve myself as a person and I have greatly enjoyed this class.

My name is Kaitlin Jones and I like playing with fonts. I am a Buff Ally on campus and a part-time staff member of the Theatre department. I believe that gender is an important aspect in defining how we live in the world, and that understanding our similarities can help us overcome our differences.

My name is Allison Simpson and I am a senior Theatre Performance Major at West Texas A&M University. Theatre is my passion because with each character I play, I gain more insight  about what it means to be human. I am very passionate about art and the human condition. Furthermore, I believe art is the perfect way to empathize with others that are different from you.  Studying the complicated concept of "gender" is extremely important in not only understanding the human condition in today's society, but also history.

My name is Ryan Oglesby. I am a first year graduate student majoring in Computer Art. I took Gender Studies mostly because it fit the schedule I was trying to make. I really had no idea what I was signing up for. This was an interesting class with many topics I have never really discussed before. It was an eye opener to what other people are having to face daily.

My name is Jacob Bautista. I am a studio art major, studying printmaking and a minor in painting. Some of my pieces have to do with gender stereotypes of men and women. I took the class to better understand these stereotypes and to become better educated about the topics.

Hi. I’m Rigel. This is my headshot to audition for the cover of a Wes Anderson film (doodle by a friend). I’m about halfway to a Master’s Degree in English and work as a teaching assistant at WTAMU. My interest in gender studies stems from being deeply entrenched in various, conflicting intersectionalities: caught somewhere between generations and cultural identities; perpetually (often intentionally) on the fringes of social constructs. I believe how we have traditionally defined and assigned gender influences every aspect of our lives. And I believe those traditions are outdated, outmoded, and long overdue for a complete overhaul. I’m happy to participate in the academic pursuit to amend our understanding of gender to better fit our rapidly changing world.

I’m Dalinda Andrade and I’m a Communication Studies graduate student. My research usually deals with gender, Latinx culture, visual rhetoric, performance, and intersectionality. I took this class having an understating of women’s studies, but I wanted to gain a more encompassing perspective of gender studies. Understanding gender allows for a greater ability to comprehend experiences that aren’t our own, I believe this is an important quality in making a more equal world for all individuals. I plan to pursue my PhD in Communication Studies in hopes of becoming a professor and qualitative researcher; I have found that research can be transformative and healing. Because I am aware of my privilege I feel a responsibility to give a voice and understanding to those in the margins.

My name is Ann Le and I am a junior studio art major with a focus on drawing. I mainly like to draw digitally using programs like Photoshop, so my drawing tablet is not only an essential tool for me, but it is also like a sketchbook where I can vent my frustrations via doodling or just doodle because I feel inspired. I first went into the Gender Studies class not knowing what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised to see how active the discussions are about not only feminist issues, but on LGBTQ+ issues and many other related topics as well. While I am not affected by some of the issues most women tend to face, I still believe having discussions on these issues and being able to listen to different viewpoints are integral to eventually finding solutions to said issues. With that said, I highly recommend this class to anyone wanting to better understand the issues and have active discussions with other people for different viewpoints.

My is Kayla Capler. I’m a 26-year-old native of Detroit (metro) Michigan and temporary resident of Canyon Texas. I’m a near professional student in Animal Science looking at graduation this coming spring. I’m more comfortable around animals and agriculture than I am people so taking a gender studies class was a big leap for me. Ultimately I’m glad I did. Looking back I had some knowledge on the topics of gender, sexuality, transpersons, and LGQTB, but now I have a greater appreciation and foresight into how all of these issues fit into our everyday life in every action we see, hear, and do ourselves.

My name is Kayla Young. I am from Las Vegas, NM. I am studying Graphic Design and work for Transfer Student Services. I enjoy traveling and getting to know about others, which is why this class has been interesting. I have enjoyed my time here at West Texas A&M; it is a good place to be, but I can't wait for it to improve even more.

Hello, my  name is Julianna Calvaruso and I am a junior Political Science major also working on obtaining my Gender Studies Certification at WT. With law still being a field prominently dominated by men, I wanted to obtain the knowledge and understanding of the different issues faced by different groups. I took Gender Studies to help expand my views on life and help open my mind to the experiences of different groups. This course makes the problems known but instead of just learning about the issues, it also proposes solutions and how everyday people can make a difference in how people view gender and sexuality in society.

My name is Brittain Mudge and I am a senior double major in Journalism and Advertising. I took Gender Studies because I have always been interested in gender and sexuality. Gender Studies has been my favorite class this semester and I think everyone could benefit from taking a class like this. I am thankful that WT offers this program.

My name is Heather Bozeman and I am a second semester sophomore.  I am a studio arts major with the goal of owning my own art studio and art gallery to sell and showcase my art as well as the work of others.  I am also the first woman Herdsmen, the team of people who run and care for the buffalo mascot, Thunder.  I wanted to take this class to help me better understand people and the history of the problems that many have to face today.  This class is definitely one that I enjoy very much and would recommend to others to take.

Hello! I am the woman on the right. My name is Lynzy Slezak. I am a Senior Musical Theatre Major with a Dance Minor. I will be graduating this December with the intent of pursing my education in graduate school. Gender Studies was the first elective I have taken in undergraduate courses that was not in the fine arts. The class has had a profound effect on my life. I have made the decision to pursue the next phase of my education by getting a Masters Degree in Counseling, with an emphasis in LGBTQIA and Gender Studies. My Masters will be followed by a PHD in the same field of study.  My dream is to become a professor at a university teaching Counseling Education and Gender Studies classes. I believe education is the first form of creating more kind and compassionate human beings. I believe everyone should take this class before graduating.

My name is Taryin Tovar. I am a senior Art History Major with an interest in East Asian studies. My decision to take this course is the result of being involved with the LGBTQIA community as well as a general interest of wanting to be as informed as possible. The fluidity of gender and sexuality has always been part of society and this class was great in addressing not only those aspects but also the multiple topics of intersectionality in the world. In a world that is quickly changing I believe taking a class such as this should be necessary in order to be better educated about events that are at the forefront of social issues in today's world.

My name is Miles Muskrat. I'm 27 years old and a senior. I have lived in Canyon for 11 years now and majoring in Business Marketing. I chose to take Gender Communications to further expand my college experience and gain insight. Initially, I was apprehensive in taking this course but felt it was the right thing to do for myself. I wanted to understand gender communications and how integral gender studies is in day to day life. This class shares an accepting atmosphere of all differences and anyone is welcome to join the conversation. I highly encourage students to take this course and be open to differences other than their own.
